In 2025, the Aquila Collection acquired Mellasat Vineyards and proudly restored the working wine farm to its original name, Dekkersvlei. Nestled beneath the majestic slopes of Paarl’s mountains, Dekkersvlei has a rich history of wine innovation, producing wines that capture the essence of the Cape Winelands. Most notably, it is the birthplace of the white Pinotage, a rare and celebrated expression of South Africa’s signature grape.

What is Dekkersvlei’s “Taste the Original” Tour?
We are excited to gift our September guests an exclusive “Taste the Original” guided wine tasting experience at Dekkersvlei, only 45 minutes from Cape Town, in Paarl!
The tour combines a short 15-minute walking tour with a tasting, giving guests a behind-the-scenes look at Dekkersvlei’s vineyards and cellars, and ending with a sampling of three wines – including Dekkersvlei’s flagship White Pinotage.

Cellar & Distillery Exploration
Step into the heart of Dekkersvlei’s production process with a behind-the-scenes look at the working wine cellars. Discover the barrel maturation area where time, oak, and craftsmanship shape the wines into something truly special.
Easy Vineyard Walk
Stroll through the scenic vineyards and explore the unique terroir that gives Dekkersvlei wines their character. Visit specific blocks, from the crisp Chenin Blanc to the bold Cabernet Sauvignon, the treasured 70-year-old bush vines, and Dekkersvlei’s pride – the Pinotage block.
Winery & Tasting: The Original White Pinotage
Your tour ends with a guided tasting of three carefully selected Dekkersvlei wines. This includes a chance to sip Dekkersvlei’s flagship White Pinotage, offered in its limited, small-batch form both at room temperature and chilled, for a comparative experience.
To complete the experience, a single-serving charcuterie board is paired with your wine tasting experience, perfectly complementing each sip.
